Mythic Americas Aztec & Nations Starter Set

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like little toy soldiers killing each other on a tiny battlefield. I picked up the Mythic America’s Aztec and Tribal Nations Starter Set for said holiday. As with most reviews I do, there were some good things and some bad things. A couple of things with the Amazon listing. The models are not plastic. They are metal.

They are mostly one piece models, but a few of them need their arms glued on. I only point this out in case you come from the world of Giant Manufacturing Game Company from England, and are used to plastic models. I think they are well detailed, and easy to put together.

They are roughly 28mm tall, on 32mm MDF bases. They are a little chunky, but they do match up well with Wargames Atlantic Digital offerings.

The rulebook is the old version of the Warlords of Erehwon (I think this is a rebrand of the Bolt Action rules). There is a new version on their website, which I really like.

I even managed to play a couple of games this weekend. I thought it was a lot of fun. There is really no setting information. And considering they want to expand it out to other Mythic cultures, this makes sense.

The only problem I had with the game was the lack of telling me what all the models were. They are pretty easy to figure out, but having an idea of what the forces in the box were would make sense.

For instance, each unit minimum size should be 5, but each unit came with 6 figures. The Tribal Nations did not come with a wizard. I would have rather had less figures, and a wizard to play the whole game with.

The cards included are nice. You get all the dice you need to play the game. The models included are nice. The counters are decent cardboard.

All in all, if you want to get into this game, I think this is a great little starter set with a good value.
